Texas backyard BBQ burger recipe

A Texas backyard BBQ burger that tastes exactly as epic as it looks. Get your BBQ gear ready and invite your friends over because this burger is one that they’ll remember forever…

Basic ingredients

  • Ground beef (½ pound per burger)
  • “You Know You Want It” spicy BBQ sauce (order here)
  • Sweet onions (sliced into rings)
  • Pulled pork (cooked)
  • Sharp Chedar cheese
  • Sesame burger buns
  • Garlic butter
  • Green leaf lettuce
  • Cole slaw (lightly dressed)

Onion ring breading

  • Yellow cornmeal
  • All purpose flour
  • Baking powder
  • Baking soda
  • Salt
  • 1 egg
  • ⅓ C finely chopped onion
  • Melted bacon fat
  • Buttermilk
  • 2 tbsp finely minced pickled jalapeños

Texas Backyard BBQ Burger Recipe

Lets begin with the breading for the onion rings. In a large bowl put ¾ C Yellow cornmeal, ⅓ C all purpose flour, ½ tsp baking powder, ¼ tsp baking soda, ¼ tsp salt,1 egg, ⅓ C finely chopped onion, 2 tsp melted bacon fat, ¾ C buttermilk and 2 tbsp finely minced pickled jalapeños. You don’t want to over-mix, because the batter will end up too stiff.

Form the ground beef into patties that are about ½ pound each. Season with kosher salt and freshly ground pepper and place on a lit flat-top grill. When you flip the patty, season the other side as well. When it is almost ready, place 2 slices of sharp Cheddar cheese to melt on top of the patty.

In the meantime, dip the onion rings in the batter. Heat up some oil and fry the onion rings.

Lay down some cooked pulled pork on the flat-top grill and cover it with a few tablespoons of “You Know You Want It” spicy BBQ sauce.

Give the buns a toast. When everything is ready, lay down some garlic butter on the bottom burger, followed by green leaf lettuce, cole slaw (lightly dressed), the patty, some pulled pork, an onion ring and hot sauce to taste.
