Spicy Blackened Cajun Burger Recipe (Sausage & Beef Patty from Heaven)
The first thing you’ll want to do is grind up the meat for the patty. This is not the usual patty-making method: in this cajun burger recipe you’ll be grinding beef short rib together with andouille sausage for that extra Cajun twist. But if you don’t have the ability to grind meat yourself, use any other ground beef you prefer.
Next up, form a patty out of the ground meat. Don’t mash the meat too much in order to shape the patty- this will stop the moisture from escaping while you’re cooking it, which is not what you want. Instead, form the patty loosely while retaining its shape and use either parchment paper or a spatula to transport it to the grill.
Season the outside of the patty with blackened Cajun seasoning. If you don’t have access to that, mix the following ingredients:
- 1 1/2 Tbsp paprika
- 1 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1 Tbsp garlic powder
- 1 Tbsp onion powder
- 1 tsp ground black pepper
- 1 Tbsp ground dried thyme
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried basil
Time to make some grilled burgers!
Fire up a grill with a flat top surface or a cast iron skillet. Next, heat up some vegetable oil, and throw the patty on! Place a slice of sharp cedar on the patty after flipping it to melt.
While the patty is cooking, heat up more vegetable oil inside another cast iron skillet. In a separate bowl, mix some all-purpose seasoning with white flour, and season the onion and Jalapeño slices before throwing them in the oil to fry.
Give the buns a good toast on the flat top before assembling the burger!
Lay down a leaf of lettuce, followed by thinly sliced tomato, then the blackened patty, some Remoulade sauce, and finally, some fried onions and jalapeños.
