Smoked Cheesy Meatball Sub Sandwich Recipe
First up, the sauce (after all, it might be the second most important part of this sandwich!)
You will need:
- 1 bottle of tomato puree (pasada)
- 1 tsp oregano
- 2 tsp garlic granule
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- Salt & pepper
Put all of the ingredients in a pot, and place it over a medium heat. If your pot is suited for cooking over fire (ceramic etc.) you can even do this on the indirect side of your grill! Stir lightly and let the sauce simmer.
Let’s move on to the main act: the meatballs. For these you will need:
- 1 1/2 lbs ground pork and beef (50/50)
- 2 garlic cloves
- Salt and pepper
- A pinch of basil
- Hot Sauce
- Shredded mozzarella and monterey jack cheese
- Brioche or Sub bread bun
Mince the garlic, and add it to a bowl of minced meat together with the other spices. Add a few drops of your favorite hot sauce (go as crazy as you dare!) Then mix everything up well, so the flavors spread out to all of the meat evenly.
Now separate the minced meat into portions, and roll each one into a meaty ball. Make an opening in the center with your thumb, and stuff it with that delicious cheese mix. Then seal the cheese inside.
