How To: Oklahoma Onion Burger Recipe From Sid’s Diner
Heat up your flat top grill, and spread some oil on it.
Place the ground beef on the grill. Don’t worry about shaping nice even meatballs- traditionally, the chef tears off a chunk he estimates is about ⅓ of a pound, places it on the grill, then smashes it flat using a heavy spatula.
Place a handful of shredded onion on each flattened patty, then mash it into the meat using the spatula. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. When ready, flip the patties and apply some more salt & pepper. Smash it one more time before adding a slice of your favorite cheese. Give the buns a toast too before assembling the burger.
If you have been to Sid’s Diner, you might remember that they dress the burger differently, but back in the day it was a lot simpler: Onion patty, pickles and yellow mustard. Assemble those ingredients, or feel free to add anything else you prefer.
