Fritos Crunch Burger Recipe Slater's 5050 Copycat

The Fritos crunch burger from Slater’s 50/50 is like comfort food on a burger. Grab some ground meat, chips, and that leftover chili from last week, and make this delicious monster at home!

Fritos Crunch Burger Recipe (Slater’s 50/50 Copycat Burger)

Let’s talk about the ingredients first. You only need a few: burger buns, ground beef (more on that in a moment), frito chips, a slice of cheese, and some leftover chili. You can also use canned chili if you want. In case you are making your own just for this, there’s a quick recipe at the bottom of this guide.

Slater’s signature burger, from which it gets the “50/50” in the name, consists of 50% ground beef and 50% bacon. This is a KILLER combo, and tastes amazing. Alternatively, use beef with a lot of marbling to form the patties.

Choosing Your Meat

Ask your meat provider (no need if you grind your own meat at home) to use the coarsest option on their machine. Then, when you’re forming the actual patty, pack it loosely, so moisture can escape during cooking.

Keeping true to its roots, you can make a patty ranging from 1/2 pound to 1 full pound.

Season the patty and grill it to your preferred doneness. Just before it is ready, place a slice of american or cheddar cheese on top and let it melt.

At the same time, give the buns a toast (used here: brioche hamburger bun). Give them a light coating of clarified butter for extra color.

Burger Assembly

And finally, it’s time to assemble our burger!

Place the patty on the bottom bun, and place a handful of fritos on top. Immediately top off with a few spoonfuls of the chili to hold everything in place. Finally, add some Thousand Island dressing on top – trust us, it works.

And there’s your Slater’s 50/50 Fritos Crunch burger!

Turkey Chili Recipe:

  • 5 strips of bacon
  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • Salt & pepper, to taste
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • 2 tsp curry powder
  • 1 Tbsp oregano
  • 2 Tbsp dehydrated minced onion
  • 1 Tbsp granulated garlic
  • 2 Tbsp chili powder
  • 12 oz chili sauce
  • 2 Cups of water

Dice up the bacon and let it render down in a hot skillet. Then add the ground turkey, and keep breaking it up until it develops a nice color. Once you’re there, add all of the seasonings and mix well. Finally, add the chili sauce and water, bring it up to a boil and reduce to your desired consistency.
