Did you know you can cook a Pepperoni Pan Pizza on the grill at home? You don’t need a fancy pizza oven if you’re a Pitmaster and own a cast iron skillet!
You will need:
- Cast Iron skillet
- 7 oz Pizza dough
- Olive oil
- Pizza sauce
- Mozzarella cheese
- Black pepper
Easy Pepperoni Pan Pizza on the Grill
Step one, rolling the dough. Spread some flour on your kitchen surface, then roll 7 oz of pizza dough into a round shape, roughly the size of your skillet (adjust the quantity depending on the skillet).
Then bring out the cast iron. Spread some olive oil on it, then place the dough inside and mold it to the correct shape. Press it into the pan, cover and let proof for ~2 hours.
Time to fire up the grill. Prepare for 2-zone cooking, with one side directly above the heat source, while the other takes advantage of radiant heat.
While the heat is rising inside the pit, you can go ahead and finish off the pizza. Spread your favorite pizza sauce on the dough, followed by a lot of mozzarella cheese, pepperoni slices, and some ground pepper. You can of course add any pizza topping you like (yes, even pineapple).
Place the pan on the indirect side of the grill, and close the lid. After 15 minutes, rotate the pan by 180º , and cook for another 10 minutes.
At this point, move the skillet over to the side that’s directly over the heat. Cook for 3 minutes, turn by 180º, and cook for another 2.
Take the pizza off the heat, and using a spatula remove it form the pan. You can now immediately slice it and eat.
